1 Present Progressive Tense
To describe actions in progress (hence the name), you can use the ‘Present Progressive Tense’ For example- in English: I am eating. You are studying. Felipe is sleeping.

2 Present Progressive Tense
Spanish also can express this. To do so: Use the correct form of the verb ESTAR Use the present participle of the second verb (verbs with –ing) For example: I am doing… (doing is a ‘present participle’) Yo estoy haciendo

3 Present Progressive Tense
To form the ‘present participle’ (-ing), follow these 2 steps: Drop the ending of the infinitive (-ar/-er/-ir) Add –ando to an –ar verb Add –iendo to an –er/-ir verb

4 Present Progressive Tense
Present Participles in español look like this: Hablar hablando Comer comiendo Hacer haciendo Escribir escribiendo Trabajar trabajando Jugar jugando Bailar bailando

5 Present Progressive Tense
A few irregular present participles: ir- yendo -ir boot verbs: E changes to I pedir- pidiendo O changes to u dormir- durmiendo Verbs that end in –eer, (leer), -aer (traer), have a Y in them Leer- leyendo traer- trayendo

6 Present Progressive Tense
Now put it all together for the present progressive tense I am eating Estoy comiendo You are talking Estás hablando We are studying Estamos estudiando They are dancing Están bailando She is working Está trabajando
