Classroom News November, 2016 Mrs. Susan Silliman, 2nd Grade, Jefferson Elementary Mark your calendar A Peek at the Month Language Arts: Compare & Contrast 2 or More Versions of the Same Story Main Purpose of Text (Persuade, Inform, or Entertain) Describe How Characters Respond to Challenges Continued Study of Tall Tales/Fiction Math: Solving Addition & Subtraction Problems Using Algorithms & Regrouping Explaining Math Strategies Writing: Group & Individual Biography Projects Explanatory text (“How-To” text) Nov. 1 – “Once Upon a Mattress” at CCCC Nov. 6 – FALL BACK – Daylight Savings Time Ends! Nov. 11 – NO SCHOOL – Teacher In-Service Nov. 17 – Title 1 Family Night, 5:30 – 7:00 Nov. 23 – Nov. 25 – NO SCHOOL–Happy Thanksgiving A Note from Your Teacher: This is the time of year when weather can be unpredictable. Check the forecast every day and make sure your kids are dressed appropriately for the weather. Look for details about our Title 1 Family Night in your child’s Jeffy Pup folder. Many Thanks to those of you who volunteered to help in the Jeffy Pup Stand during Arkalalah! Upcoming tests & assignments Literacy –READO board – Students complete 5 tasks on the board. (Any five will work - they don't have to be in a row. And the free space doesn't count.) An adult must initial each completed box. If the task requires a written answer, students will write the answer on the backside of the page. Students who complete the WHOLE BOARD will receive a special reward at the end of the month. Fluency - Read the direction sheet for “How-To” information. These are due every Friday. Don’t forget to complete the Comprehension questions on the back.
