We’ve talked about what we like and love.
We’ve talked about what we prefer and what we want to do to be healthy. Now we are going to learn how to use the verb “tener” in a phrase to communicate what we have to do! You’re going to take some important notes next. The teacher will give you a note-taking sheet and you need to make sure to complete this task!

Read this slide to yourself and take down the notes on your white paper the teacher gave you. Los Requisitos,pesamientos y los consejos: Communicating Needs, Thoughts & Advice Parte #1: Using ‘tener+que+infinitive verb’ Use this phrase to express Things that people have to do/things they’re required to do. The phrase “(Yo) tengo que beber más agua” means “I have to drink more wáter.” You must use an infinitive with this structure (a verb with its -ar, -er, -ir ending) DO NOT CONJUGATE like this: Yo tengo que bebo menos refrescos. Don’t get stuck on the literal translation for this phrase because it doesn’t sound right. Focus on the interpretation.

Let’s move on to talk about what we think and what we believe! We’re going to use a new verb, creer, and that word ‘que’ again! Read this slide to yourself and write down the notes under “Part 2: Using ‘creer + que’. Expressing Thoughts & Beliefs Usando el verbo: creer The verb creer means “to think”. It’s a regular –er verb It is used with the word ‘que’, which means “that” in this context. Always use the creer with que

Let’s move on! Now it’s time to give ourselves and others advice! This is going to use another new verb! Write down notes in your “Part 3: Using ‘deber’ to give advice. Usando el verbo: deber It’s a regular –er verb and it literally means “to ought to.” It is our “should” verb. It is used with other verbs back to back (I should eat/You should drink) The first verb (deber in this case) will be conjugated but the second verb will not. It will stay an infinitive.
