Make 3 groups out of the entire class.
Each group gets 1 set of “Royal Pronoun” cards and a 4-5 “Madrid Place” cards. Leave all cards in a community pile in the middle of the entire group. Within your group, split into partners. (Student A and Student B) Student A will pull and use a “Royal Pronoun” card from the community pile to construct a question verbally about where someone will go in Madrid. Student B will pull and use a “Madrid Place” card to respond to the question appropriately. Return both cards to the pile and choose again. After 5 questions and answers, students will then switch roles and repeat the activity.

Example Student A pulls the “Ustedes” card. Student B pulls the “Palacio Real” card. Student A says “¿Adónde van ustedes? Student B responds: “Vamos al Palacio Real”. Let’s do a whole-group wrap-up!

This graded assignment will take place in two stations with each station including two of the four language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking).

Station #1 Language Skill: Speaking and Listening
Set up: Partner Activity in front of the teacher Student A will be given 3 subject pronouns attached to pictures of members of the royal family. Student A will construct 3 questions verbally to that ask where the people are going Student B will be given 2 Madrid location pictures. Student B will use these pictures to respond to the questions that Student A will construct using the pronouns.. Student A will use a listening worksheet to check off in English what they are hearing. Students will then switch roles and repeat the activity. (Teacher Hint: Give Student B one masculine place and one feminine place to assess the use of IR + al and IR + a la).

Station #2 Language Skill: Reading and Writing
Set up: Individual at desk Each student will be given a copy of one of the three Madrid travel blog entries. They must read the blog entry and answer the questions that follow in English. Then, each student is asked to write their own blog entry in Spanish about three places in Madrid that they would like to visit and what they would like to do in Madrid that was not already mentioned in the blog entry that they read. The blog entry should include what at least three people (including self) plan to see and do.
