English Learner Data Datos De Los Estudiantes de Inglés Current English learners is the number of students that tested as ELs on the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). Students are tested because the parents indicated on the Home Language Survey when they registered with the district that they speak a language other than English. Initials are students who are new to the country or Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or Kindergarten students starting school. Annual EL students take the test each year until they are reclassified. That means that they scored as English Proficient on the CELDT test. Initially Fluent students mean that they scored as English Proficient when they took the initial CELDT test. Students are recommended for reclassification when they meet the criteria. See the next slide. All reclassified EL students are monitored for two years to make sure that they continue to make progress.

3 Reclassification Criteria/Criterios de Reclasificación
California English Language Development Test (CELDT) Score 3 (intermediate), 4 (Early Advanced), or 5 (Advanced) with an overall score of 4 or 5 in all four domains (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking) Pass the cut-scores on the District Midterm English Language Arts (ELA) Assessment Principals and Teachers review and sign the Reclassification form and notify parents Parents receive a copy of the signed form Prueba del Desarrollo del Inglés de California (CELDT por sus siglas en Inglés) Nivel 3 (Intermedio), 4 (Preavanzado), or 5 (Avanzado) con la puntuación de 4 o 5 en las cuatro áreas examinadas (Lectura, expresión escrita, Auditiva, y expresión oral) Cuando Pasan de Nivel durante el examen Trimestral del Distrito en las Artes del Lenguage Inglés (ELA) Los directores y maestros revisan y firman el formulario de Reclasificación y notifican a los padres. To be reclassified as English proficient, EL students must have an overall score of They are tested and get a score in reading, writing, listening and speaking. They can get one three but must have an overall score of 4-5. They also must pass the district Midterm English Language Arts assessment. To be fair we are able to adjust the scores for our English learners. Principals and teachers review and agree that the student is ready to be reclassified. They also notify the parents. All must sign the form.

It’s called the English Language Proficiency Assessment of California (ELPAC). This spring the state is conducting Pilot (practice) assessments at two of our school sites for a small group of students. These tests will not be scored, but will give the state data about the test. Beginning in the school year, we will continue to administer the CELDT initial test for the last time. In the spring we will be testing all EL students with the ELPAC test. We will give you more information at the DELAC meetings and on our website. In we will test our initial students with the ELPAC in the beginning of the year (window is July 1- October 31). In the spring we will test annuals (all ELs). This later window will give students more instructional time in English. 5 Difference Between the CELDT & ELPAC La Diferencia Entre CELDT & ELPAC
One test used for two purposes: Initial Assessment Annual Assessment Two separate tests for two purposes: Initial Identification (brief and locally scored) Annual Summative Assessment La Diferencia Entre CELDT & ELPAC These are some of the basic difference between CELDT and ELPAC. The CELDT has the same test for both Initial and Annual students. The ELPAC will use two different tests.
