Zebras, Giraffes, Lions & Tigers Child Initiated Learning in Key Stage One/ Aprendizaje iniciado por el niño en KS1 Child initiated learning, according to good UK practice, should continue all the way through to age 11 at primary school. Aprendizaje iniciado por el niño, de acuerdo con las buenas prácticas del Reino Unido, debe continuar hasta el final a los 11 años en la escuela primaria. Our children will be taking part in child initiated activities in class. This will allow them to use the skills, knowledge and understanding they learn in more formal lessons in a way that is motivating and relevant to each individual child in a way that encourages each child to take the initiative in what they are doing. Reading/ Lectura Reading books “Oxford Reading Tree” will be sent home to practise, please ensure you read 10 to 15 mins a day (you don´t have to read the whole book everyday) and record reading sessions at home in the reading record book. Books get changed regularly if the child has the correct fluency and understanding of the story. La libros de lectura serán enviados a casa para practicar, por favor leer unos 10/15 mins al dia ( no hay que leer todo el libro en un dia) y escribir comentarios de como ha sido la sesión en el “reading record book”. Los libros se cambian regularmente si el niño tiene la suficiente fluidez y entendimiento del libro. Group guided reading sessions. Everyday in class, we read and do lots of activities in groups to ensure the understanding of the story. This year we are working hard on the children’s reading comprehension. En las sesiones en grupo de lectura, leemos y hacemos muchas actividades para aseguranos la correcta compresion del libro. Este año vamos a trabajar muy duro en la compression. “Bug Club” is an interactive reading scheme of work with lots of great books. It is for children to use at home. Very shortly we will send you the log in details. You can use it on computers or ipads/tables. “Bug Club” es un progama de trabajo a la lectura con libros muy interesantes. Es para que los niños lo usen en casa. Pronto les mandaremos la contraseña. Se pude acdeder desde ordenadores o ipad/tabletas.

Writing/Escritura Introduction of more formal structures in writing e.g writing letters, stories, instructions, poems, recounts… Introduciremos formas mas formales de escritura por ejemplo: cartas, cuentos, instrucciones, poemas. In “Big Write” we emphasise the importance of vocabulary, punctuation, connectives and openers when writing stories. En “Big Write” trabajamos la importancia del vocabulario, puntuación y conectores cuando escribimos. We focus on one or two words in a child’s piece of writing, we underline the word in yellow and use Look, Say, Copy, Write, Check Nos enfocamos en una o dos palabras en cada escritura que hacen, subrayamos la palabra en amarillo y usamos el método “Mirar, Decir, Copiar, Escribir, Comprobar” At the end of Year 1 and in Year 2, your child will begin to learn to join their letters. The way we join in English is different from Spanish. Please support them in this process. Al final de Year 1 y en Year 2 los niños aprenden a unir las letras. La manera en la que unimos en ingles es diferente que la de español. Por favor ayudarnos con esto.

Spelling/Deletrear For Phonics children will be grouped according to their learning needs so your child might have a different teacher during these sessions. En la clase de fonética agrupamos a los niños de acuerdo con sus necesidades, su hijo puede tener una profesora diferente en estas clases. Children will take some spelling words home according to the phonics they have learnt that week. Los niños llevaran a casa palabras para aprender a deletrear según la fonética dada esa semana.

How you can help at home Como ayudar en casa Reading books in English to your child. Lea libros en ingles con su hijo Encouraging your child to speak in English. Incentiva a su hijo a hablar en ingles Encourage them to write about the weekend, shopping list, describing animals, friends… Incentiva a su hijo a escribir sobre el fin de semana, la compra, describir animales o amigos. Use everyday opportunities to practise calculating e.g. in the supermarket, laying the table etc. Usa oportunidades de cada dia para practicar las matematicas e.g en el supermercado

Spanish Curriculum in KIS La enseñanza en la letra cursiva ocasiona un buen desarrollo cerebral en la medida que se necesitan muchas operaciones cerebrales para lograr un perfeccionamiento en este tipo de escritura. Es la que más se adecúa al funcionamiento del sistema nervioso por ser una respuesta motora continua. La letra ligada, en contraste con las letras de imprenta, permite la flexibilidad de los movimientos motrices también es más fácilmente recordada. Favorece la velocidad de la escritura. Las evidencias experimentales revelan que la escritura cursiva o ligada es más rápida que la escritura imprenta o “script”, por el hecho que el ligado favorece la fluidez y el dinamismo de los trazos.
