Using A to emphasize WHO You can clarify and/or emphasize who likes what by using an A followed by a name or pronoun. For example: A Ana le gustan los perros. Or: A ustedes les gusta la clase de español. Some important reminders for using this special A are:  you must use one A for every name you list. So if Ana, Pablo and Carla like dogs you must say, “A Ana, a Pablo, y a Carla les gustan los perros.”  Special pronouns are used after the preposition A, these are different from the subject pronouns in some cases.
