Common Core We are continuing to follow the Common Core Standards (as we did last year) We are using Balanced Literacy for our Literacy blocks (reading and writing) This year, we are using the curriculum provided by New York State, accessible at engageny.org Seguimos las normas fundamentales comunes (Common Core)( como lo hicimos el año pasado) Estamos utilizando la lectura balanceada durante la lectura y escritura. Focus in Reading Listening and Learning  Students learn new content and gain information through interesting read alouds, classroom discussions, and paired work. Phonics  Students will be reviewing and learning new phonics sounds and spellings in order to develop stronger word recognition skills using a program called Fundations. Leveled Reading  Students will work in small groups as well as independently at their level in order to develop reading comprehension skills.

Application/Word Problems  Students will be able to read and solve word problems.
