When you tell time in Spanish you will use the verb SER. Note that you use es when it is one o’clock and son when it is any hour from two to twelve o’clock. It is one o’clock It is two o’clock It is three o’clock
The clock is divided into two parts
If the minute hand is anywhere between one minute past the hour until 30 minutes past, you will use “and” ….. Y
Es la una y veinticinco It is one “and” twenty-five
If the minute hand is anywhere between 31 minutes past the hour until 59 minutes past, you will use ….. menos and state how many minutes til the next hour
Son las seis menos diez It is ten til six
You will use a “quarter” instead of fifteen
