Preterite tense In Spanish, there are two past tenses. One is called the preterite tense and the other is called the imperfect tense. We are focusing on the preterite tense of one verb only  ir. Remember that ir means to go in the present tense. In the preterite (past) tense, it means WENT. –As in: I went to the store. –Instead of: I go to the store.

Before we continue, let’s conjugate ir in the preterite tense. The conjugations are different. Remember, that verbs conjugate differently in each tense. Yo fui  I went Tú fuiste  You went Él He went Ella fue  She went Ud. You went Nosotros fuimos  We went Vosotros fuisteis Ellos They went Ellas fueron  They went Uds. You all went Ir – to go In the past tense it means went.
