Stem changers  -AR and –ER stem changers work like normal verbs  -IR stem changers have a stem change in the él/ella/usted and ellos/ellas/ustedes forms.  If the verb was an e:i or e:ie in the present the stem change is e:i in the preterite.  If the stem change was o:ue in the present tense the stem change is o:u in the preterite.
