Luke 3:1 - 6 1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene, 2 during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert.

3 He went throughout the whole region of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, 4 as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one crying out in the desert: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. 5 Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth,

Be aware that the readings for today transcend time and space. It applied yesterday there, and it applies today here. There is a growing sense of expectation. Something great is about to happen.

Hoy es el Segundo Domingo de Adviento Hoy es el Segundo Domingo de Adviento. Sepan que las lecturas de hoy transcienden el tiempo y el espacio. Aplican ayer allá, y aplican hoy aquí. Algo grande esta por suceder.

The prophet Baruch alerted Jerusalem The prophet Baruch alerted Jerusalem. “Look to the east, and see your children returning. Those who were led away into captivity are coming back. Make an easy road for them, that they may advance secure in the glory of God. God is leading Israel in joy by the light of his glory”. God wants to set us free from sin; He wants to make it easy for us. He wants us secure in his glory.

Psalm 126 remembered the captives coming back from Exile Psalm 126 remembered the captives coming back from Exile. “They were like men dreaming. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with rejoicing. Those who sow in tears shall reap rejoicing. Although they go forth weeping, carrying their seed to be sown, they shall come back rejoicing, carrying their sheaves.” This is how we feel when we are in consolation. God can be desired, even before He is seen. His presence can be felt, and we can eagerly hope for his coming. We know God is good, and He loves us!

Dios es deseado antes de ser visto, y su presencia se siente, y con ansias esperamos su venida. Sabemos que Dios es bueno, y que ¡ Él nos ama !

In order for any great project to succeed, it is important that the timing and the location be right. In all the great events of history great efforts were made to have the upper hand in battle, or to start at the right time, and to be at the right place, and to have the right people in leadership. It is the same in the history of salvation.

Para que cualquier proyecto grande tenga éxito, es importante que sea el tiempo apropiado y que este localizado en el mejor lugar. En todos los grandes acontecimientos de la historia grandes esfuerzos se han hecho para ganar en la batalla, o comenzar al mejor tiempo, y estar en el mejor lugar, y tener las mejores personas posibles dirigiendo. Es lo mismo en la historia de la salvación.

The Book of Daniel told us that God is the Master of history The Book of Daniel told us that God is the Master of history. He brings about changes in times and in eras. He “deposes kings and sets up kings”. God knew it was time for the fulfillment of his promises to his people. The Golden Age of salvation was about to come.

El Libro de Daniel nos dice que Dios es el Maestro de la Historia El Libro de Daniel nos dice que Dios es el Maestro de la Historia. Él trae los cambios de los tiempos, y de las épocas. The Greek Stoics believed history was sort of repeated over and over again, like in concentric circles around kings. One reign enfolded another. There was nothing new under the sun. Their Golden Age was in the past. Their gods were appearances—not embodying the Essence of the Divinity.

Es bueno recordar que los Griegos veían a la historia como algo que se repite una y otra vez, como círculos concéntricos alrededor de los reyes. Un reinado esta envuelto en otro. The Hebrew way of thinking was different. History was linear The Hebrew way of thinking was different. History was linear. The Golden Age was in the future. They were ever looking forward to the Messianic Reign at the End Times. They would be times of fulfillment of God’s promises. God’s appearances speak of the Essence of God. He is the one who gradually manifest Who He is, and Who He will be. That is why knowledge of His Name was very important. Yahweh was “I am who am” It spoke of who He was, Who He is, and Who He will be.

Él era el que poco a poco manifestaba Quien era, Quien es, y Quien será. Por eso el conocimiento de su Nombre era muy importante. Yahvé era “Yo soy quien soy”. Hablaba de lo que Él era, y lo que Él es, y lo que Él será.

To Jesus the futurity of the reign of God becomes a power to determine the present. The End determines the Beginning. He is the Alpha and the Omega. The goal moves us forward. It gives us impetus. It gives us a reason for acting. It becomes a motivating force. It is an energizing power, so great that “the charity of Christ urges us on” (2 Corinthians 5:14).

Para Jesús el futuro del reino de Dios es algo que tiene poder para determinar el presente. El Fin determina el Comienzo. Él es el Alpha y el Omega. La meta nos mueve hacia delante. Nos da ímpetus. Nos da una razón para actuar. Es una fuerza que nos conmueve. Es una fuerza que nos da energía, tan grande que San Pablo dice: “La caridad de Cristo nos urge” (2 Corintios 5:14).

The beginning of the Gospel for today reminds us of whom the great rulers were in the time of Christ. Remember the calendar as we now know it was not invented until later. So they used the names of Kings to date things. Enter John the Baptist. He was “a voice crying in the desert”. God gave him the gift to know that the coming of the Messiah was right around the corner. The time and the location were right.

El comienzo del Evangelio de hoy nos recuerda de quienes eran los grandes que mandaban en el tiempo de Cristo. Recuerden que el calendario como lo conocemos hoy no fue inventado hasta después. Por eso es que usaban los nombres de los reyes para dar la fecha de todas las cosas. Entra Juan Bautista. Era una “voz que clamaba en el desierto”. Dios le concedió el don de saber que el Mesías ya estaba por venir. Estaba muy cerca. Era el momento y el lugar oportuno.

It was time to prepare. “Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight his paths…” It is very much the same as Baruch’s prophecy. The children of God need be ready to come back to God, and live in his loving presence. Era tiempo para preparar. “Preparen el camino del Señor, enderecen sus caminos.” Fíjense que se parece a lo que dijo el profeta Baruc. Los hijos de Dios necesitan estar listos para regresar a Dios, y vivir en su amorosa presencia.

If God is love, then you have to get rid of any obstacle to his love If God is love, then you have to get rid of any obstacle to his love. Therefore purify yourself. Only the pure of heart will see God. It may be painful to let go of certain things, but if it is necessary, it needs be done. It only hurts for a little while. You know that you will get a huge reward, for everything you do in the Name of the Lord. Nothing goes unnoticed. Everything has a purpose. It is not in vain. There is a time for everything under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

Si Dios es amor, entonces tienes que eliminar todo obstáculo a ese amor. Entonces purifícate. Solos los puros de corazón verán a Dios. Quizás sea doloroso dejar ir a ciertas cosas, pero si es necesario, hay que hacerlo. Solo duele por un momento. Sabes que vas a recibir un gran premio, para todo lo que haces en el Nombre del Señor. Nada sucede sin que Dios sé de cuenta. Todo tiene su propósito. No es en vano. Hay un tiempo para todo bajo el cielo (Eclesiastés 3:1).

“No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9). It is bigger than anything you can think of. It is higher than the mountains; it is deeper than the seas, it more beautiful than anything you can imagine. It is awesome! We are not worthy! But God loves us, and we belong to him.

“Ningún ojo ha visto, y ningún oído ha oído, ni el corazón del hombre ha concebido, lo que Dios ha preparado para los que lo aman” (1 Corintios 2:9). Es algo más grande de cualquier cosa que te puedas imaginar. Es mas alto que las montañas, es mas profundo que el mar, es más bello que cualquier cosa que te imagines. ¡ Es maravilloso! ¡No somos dignos! Pero Dios nos ama, y pertenecemos a Él.

Jesus said: “Do not let your hearts be troubled Jesus said: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be” (John 14:1-3).

Jesús dijo: “No dejes que se turban sus corazones Jesús dijo: “No dejes que se turban sus corazones. Tengan fe en Dios, tengan también fe en mi. En la casa de mi Padre hay muchas habitaciones. Si no, ¿les hubiera dicho que voy a preparar un lugar par ustedes? Y si voy a preparar un lugar para ustedes, Yo regresare, y los llevare conmigo, para que donde Yo este, también estén ustedes” (Juan 14:1-3).

Advent is the right time for preparation for the coming of the Lord every day, on Christmas Day, and at the end of time. Jesus is coming to prepare us to take us to himself. It is something big! John the Baptist knew this, and he told us how to get ready: “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.” Come, Lord Jesus!

El tiempo de Adviento es el tiempo para prepararnos para la venida del Señor cada día, el día de Navidad, y en los fines de los tiempos. Jesús viene para prepararnos para llevarnos con Él mismo. ¡Es algo grande! Juan Bautista sabia esto, y nos dijo como prepararnos: “Preparen el camino del Señor, hagan rectos sus caminos.” ¡Ven, Señor Jesús!
