Using Infinitives

tener que + infinitive = “Have to…” I have to study. = Tengo que estudiar. We have to cook. = Tenemos que cocinar.

Tengo que levantarme a las ocho. Tenemos que levantarnos a las ocho. When using reflexive verbs with this formula, make sure to CHANGE THE PRONOUN on the end of the infinitive: Tengo que levantarme a las ocho. Tenemos que levantarnos a las ocho. Mi papá tiene que levantarse a las ocho.

Práctica I have to go to bed at 9:00. We have to wake up at 6:30. I have to go to Spanish Class at 10:00.

Práctica I wash my hands. I have to wash my hands. We shave. We have to shave.

“to have just finished doing something” “Acabar de” = “to have just finished doing something” Conjugate “acabar” to the present tense, followed by an infinitive: Acabo de comer. Acabo de vestirme. Acabamos de hablar.
