The basics Verbs are actions words In Spanish all verbs are conjugated. –That means they have different forms depending on who or what you are talking about. There are 6 conjugated forms or endings. You have already learned this when you “conjugated” ser and tener.
The infinitive All verbs in Spanish mean “to do something” –Examples: hablar = to talk, speakbailar = to dance This is called the infinitive form of the verb.
The stem The stem of a verb is when you drop the –ar ending. Examples: –Hablar is the infinitive. Habl is the stem. –Bailar is the infinitive. Bail is the stem. To conjugate a verb you take the stem of the verb and add the correct ending.
The endings Yo o Nosotros/as amos Tú asVosotros/as aís Él Ella a Ud. Ellos Ellas an Uds.
Hablar (to talk,speak) stem : Habl Yo habloNosotros/as hablamos Tú hablasVosotros/as habláis Él Ella habla Ud. Ellos Ellas hablan Uds.
