Let’s look at definite articles Definite articles translate to “THE” in English. Think of it this way → whenever you would tell someone that you want THE apple on the table, not just any apple, that’s when you would use the definite article. Definite articles in Spanish are either masculine or feminine; and they can be singular or plural. Think → THE apple or THE APPLES on the counter.

Adding colors as adjectives In English, we would add the color of an object before the name. Example: The white house. In Spanish, we add the color of an object AFTER the name. Example: La casa blanca. (The house white).

Like other adjectives, names of the common colors when used in Spanish must agree with the nouns they describe in both gender and number. Note that the form changes depending on the number and gender of what's being described:.) El coche amarillo. (The yellow car.) Los coches amarillos. (The yellow cars.) La flor amarilla. (The yellow flower.) Las flores amarillas. (The yellow flowers.)

Try it! Add the color to the object. Make sure everything agrees! The yellow chair → La silla amarilla The yellow chairs → Las sillas amarillas The red pen → El bolígrafo rojo The red pens → Los bolígrafos rojos The black dog → El perro negro The black dogs → Los perros negros The green eye → El ojo verde The green eyes → Los ojos verdes

Try it! Add the color to the object. Make sure everything agrees! The blue table → La mesa azul The blue tables → Las mesas azules The brown cat → El gato moreno The brown cats → Los gatos morenos The orange fish → El pez anaranjado The orange fish → Los peces anaranjados
