The imperfect tense is a past tense in Spanish used to describe actions that occurred repeatedly or over an extended period of time or to describe an event in the past. I used to walk my dog every day. It was a rainy day. We always went to the beach in the summer.

To conjugate an –AR verb in the imperfect tense, drop off the –AR ending and add the following endings to the stem: Yo: -aba Tú: -abas Él, ella, usted: -aba Nosotros: -ábamos Vosotros: -abais Ellos, Ellas Ustedes: -aban
