Match up these time phrases with their English translations. Hace seis meses… Hace dos años… Hace quince días… El verano pasado… Hace unas semanas… La semana pasada… El año pasado… Last summer… A fortnight ago… Six months ago… Two years ago… A few weeks ago… Last year… Last week…

Using all the vocabulary we have learnt so far, translate these sentences into Spanish. 1.When I was young, I loved to play tennis. 2.I used to eat chips every day. 3.I used to play all types of sport. 4.Last year, I used to eat healthily. 5.I never used to exercise. 6.When I was young, I was short and fat. 7.I always used to go fishing with my dad. 8.I used to drink two litres of water a day. 9.Before I used to eat lots of salad and vegetables. 10.Now I only eat fast food which is unhealthy.

Impersonal verbs Ejemplo: Para una vida sana, se debe comer fruta y legumbres. For a healthy lifestyle, you ought to eat fruit and vegetables. You have already met ‘se puede’ meaning ‘you can’ in the sense of ‘one can’. This is called an impersonal verb because it is general and doesn’t refer to any one person in particular. ‘Se debe’ is used in the same way, meaning ‘you ought to / you should’. It is always followed by the infinitive.

Se debe… You ought to / You should… beber dos litros de agua al día. comer cinco raciones de fruta o verdura al día. dormir ochos horas al día. comer el desayuno todos los días. hacer ejercicio tres veces a la semana. lavarte los dientes después de comer. evitar beber demasiado café. control ar el estrés.

No se debe… You ought not to / You shouldn’t… acostars e tarde. fumar cigarillos. tomar drogas. comer la comida basura.
