Los adjetivos posesivos Possessive adjectives (short form) “Abriendo Paso – Gramática” pg. 89

su, sus (your, his, hers, its) Possessive adjectives indicate ownership or possession. They agree in gender and number with the thing possessed, not with the possessor. mi, mis (my) tu, tus (your) su, sus (your, his, hers, its) Nuestro, nuestra, nuestros nuestras (our) Vuestro, vuestra, vuestros, vuestras (your) Su, sus (their) Note that: 1. Short possessive adjectives are always placed before the noun they modify 2. mi, tu, and su have the same form for the masculine and feminine forms (mi madre, mi padre) 3. nuestro, and vuestro have a feminine form: nuestra, vuestra (nuestro abuelo, nuestra abuela). 4. to form the plural add –s. (nuestros tíos, mis primos)

Where there is not ambiguity it is preferable to use su. 5. mi (my), tu (your), nuestro (our), and vuestro (your) have only one equivalent in English 6. su can mean either his, her, your, its, or their. I n order to avoid ambiguity, replace su with de + noun or de + pronoun (él, ella, Ud., Uds., ellos, ellas) su coche sus tìas el coche de Felipe (Elena, etc.) el coche de él (ella, etc.) las tìas de Ana (Javier, etc.) las tìas de ella (él, etc.) Where there is not ambiguity it is preferable to use su. - Juana es muy rica. Su coche es un Rolls Royce - Juana is very rich. Her car is a Rolls Royce.
