Español 3. Lección Preliminar Pronombres del objeto indirecto

 Indirect object pronouns (IOPs) are nouns that answer the questions To whom? or For whom?

 Rosa [gives] Sandra the ticket.  Rosa gives her the ticket.  Rosa gives the ticket to Sandra.  Rosa gives the ticket to her.

 I need to give the ticket to you all.  I need to give you all the ticket.  The teachers have to talk to the students.  The teachers have to talk to them.

 me = a mí  te = a ti  le = a Ud. a él a ella  nos = a nosotros  os = a vosotros  les = a Uds. a ellos a ellas

 In Spanish, the indirect object will often be matched with “a” or “para.”  Just look for an “a” phrase or “para” phrase and match it up with the correct IOP.

 You can keep the “a” phrase to clarify who you’re talking about.  Le hablo por teléfono.  Le hablo a mi amigo por teléfono.

 Indirect object pronouns go in front of a conjugated verb.  Rosa da el boleto a Sandra.  Rosa le da el boleto (a Sandra).

 Necesito dar el boleto a Uds.  Les necesito dar el boleto (a Uds).  Los maestros tienen que hablar a los estudiantes.  Los maestros les tienen que hablar (a los estudiantes).

2. Indirect object pronouns can attach to an unconjugated verb:  an infinitive (hablar)  present participle (hablando)  place an accent on the “a” in ando or the “e” in iendo.

 Necesito dar el boleto a Uds.  Necesito darles el boleto (a Uds.)  Los maestros tienen que hablar a los estudiantes.  Los maestros tienen que hablarles (a los estudiantes).

 Estoy escribiendo una carta a mi abuela.  Estoy escribiéndole una carta a mi abuela.

 Unlike in English, if the sentence contains a Indirect Object, it MUST ALSO have the corresponding Indirect Object Pronoun.  Doy el libro a Manuel.  LE doy el libro a Manuel.√
