16  29  numbers 16  29 have two options  17 = diez y siete or diecisiete  (z  c)(y  i)  24 = veinte y cuatro orveinticuatro  (drop the “e”) (y  i)  ISSUE: when the second number is one syllable (dos, tres, seis) you must add an accent mark when it becomes one word)  veintidósveintitrésveintiséis

Agreement  With numbers 0  100 you never have to worry about agreement  For numbers 200  900 you have agreement when referring to a specific item  Tenemos doscientos libros.  Tenemos trescientas computadoras.  Un/una does the same thing (from uno)  Tengo treinta y una camisas.  Tengo treinta y un libros.

Un  “Un” is not used before cien, ciento and mil.  cien libros = one hundred books  ciento = one hundred  mil libros = one thousand books  Also notice how “mil” never becomes plural  Dos mil libros = two thousand books

Un  HOWEVER: you do use “un” with millón  Un millón libros = one million books  Notice how “millón” becomes plural  dos millones libros – two million books  Also notice how the accent is only used over millón

“y”  In English we overuse “and” when talking about numbers  Three thousand and forty nine  Two hundred and twenty four  In Spanish DON’T DO THIS!!!  You only use “y” when it’s already part of the number

“y”  5,265, 962  Cinco millones doscientos sesenta y cinco mil novecientos sesenta y dos.  305  trescientos cinco (no “y”!)

cien vs. ciento  Both mean one hundred  Use “cien”  when saying 100 even  Before mil / millón/ millones  Before nouns (cien libros)  Use “ciento”  Any number after “100”  101 = (ciento uno)

La fecha  To give the date in Spanish:  el + number + de + month  el catorce de octubre  14/10/08 or 14/X/08  I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII  enero, febrero, marzo, abril, mayo, junio, julio, agosto, septiembre, octubre, noviembre, diciembre

El año  In Spanish, always read the date in the thousands (like we do now)  2008 = dos mil ocho  1997= mil novecientos noventa y siete

Los números de teléfono  In Spanish, break down the phone number into pairs (so for our phone numbers the first number stands alone)    nueve, cuarenta y siete, veintiséis, sesenta
