To TALK about how long something has been going on use the following formula: Hace + period of time + que + present tense verb Ejemplos: Hace 5 años que vivo en Cary. (I’ve been living in Cary for 5 years.) Hace 3 horas que estudiamos. (We’ve been studying for 3 hours.)

ASK To ASK about how long something has been going on use the following formula: ¿Cuánto tiempo + hace + que + present tense verb? Ejemplos: ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que vives en Cary? (How long have you lived in Cary?) ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que estudian? (How long have you all been studying?)
