THE – definite article Used with nouns to indicate SPECIFIC persons, places, or things. Articles match in gender (masculine / feminine) and number (singular / plural) Even if referring to objects, all nouns are either masculine or feminine. Nouns ending in –o are USUALLY masculine. Nouns ending in –a are USUALLY feminine.

Making Nouns Plural To form a plural noun (more than one): If it ends in a vowel (a,e,i,o,u) add –s Fruta frutas Estudiante estudiantes If it ends in a consonant add –es. Mujer mujeres Flor flores If it ends in a –z, change the –z to a –c and then add –es! Lapiz lapices
