La alergia es una respuesta exagerada del organismo a sustancias determinadas (alergenos). Cuando un alergeno penetra en el organismo de un sujeto alergico el sistema inmunitario produce muchos anticuerpos (Inmunoglobulina E, IgE). La exposición sucesiva a un mismo alergeno produce la liberación de muchos mediadores quimicos, fundamentalmente histamina, que produce la reacción alérgica.

Sintomatologia o semiologia Cutáneas: eczema, dermatitis atópica, urticaria y edema angioneurótico Pulmonares: asma, pneumopatia intersticial, pneumopatia eosinofílica Oculares: conjuntivitis, queratitis Otorinolaringológicas: rinitis, sinusitis, epistaxis, anósmia Digestivas: vómitos, diarreas, dolor abdominal Hematológicas: anemia, trombopenia, leucopenia, eosinofilia Generalitzadas: anafilaxia o choque anafiláctico En España se calcula que un 3% de la población adulta padece rechazo alérgico a algún alimento. Sumando las alergias a polen y ácaros y metales y animales hay hasta un 25% de la población que sufre alguna incompatibilidad immunológica. Los frutos secos, el melocotón, las gambas son los alimentos que causan más alergia en adultos.

ALERGIA CUTÁNEA

La atopia es una predisposición genética a las alergias, con un componente hereditario importante. Hipersensibilidad a alergenos. Se manifiesta por eczema, dermatitis atópica, conjuntivitis alérgica, rinitis alérgica y asma. Está en aumento constante en el mundo. En el mundo occidental afecta a 10% de los niños aproximadamente (5-25%). La atopia es la primera causa de asma (80%). Los síntomas son parecidos a los del asma pero generalmente más precoces. En la edad adulta suele desaparecer. Solo se conserva entre un 10 y 15%.
