El pretérito There are very few stem changes in the preterite tense. If a verb is an –ir verb and has a stem change, it will have one in the 3rd persons. The stem change in the preterite will be similar, but not the exact same. Ejemplo: Dormir has an o to ue stem change in present, in preterite has an o to u stem change.

El pretérito regular Regular preterite endings are: -ar verbs é aste ó amos aron -er/-ir verbs í iste ió imos ieron

El pretérito irregular Many of the irregular verbs are completely irregular. However, there are a large group of irregular verbs that fall into patterns. These verbs are identified by the way they are spelled when conjugated. Some examples are: -gar verbs, -car verbs, -zar verbs, y verbs, and j verbs.

El pretérito irregular Here is a list of verbs that are irregular, and the category that they fall in. Completely irregular: ser, ir, hacer, tener, estar, dar, decir, poder, poner, querer, saber, venir, ver Y verbs: leer, oír, caer, creer, construir J verbs: conducir, producir, reducir, traducir -gar verbs: llegar, apagar, jugar -car verbs: buscar, explicar, identificar, marcar, practicar, pescar, sacar, secar, tocar -zar verbs: cruzar, comenzar, almorzar, empezar

El pretérito irregular (un aviso) My tip would be to remember which infinitives are irregular. At this point, do not try to memorize all of the conjugations. Once you have that information memorized, whenever you come across these verbs you can look them up!
