Both SER and ESTAR mean to be. Each verb is used in different ways. So how do we know when to use SER and when to use ESTAR?

In general, SER is used for permanent attributes, while ESTAR is used for temporary states and locations. To remember more specific uses of the verbs SER and ESTAR, we can use the acronyms DOCTOR and PLACE.
