Simple Gustar (great for when people already know who you are talking about) English Spanish Singular Spanish plural I like me gusta(n) We (X and I) like nos gusta(n) You like (familiar) te gusta(n) Y’all like (in Spain) os gusta(n) You like (formal) le gusta(n) y’all like (Lat. Am) les gusta(n) He likes They like (m) She likes They like (f)

When do you use full gustar? Full gustar (to like) is used for emphasis, and whenever a name, pronoun, or noun must be used to clarify who you are talking about. For example, you cannot answer the question, ¿A quién le gusta el helado? with a simple Le gusta(n), because it could mean you like, he likes, or she likes. You must be more specific and say Mary likes ice cream. To do this you must use her name, which means you must use A + name, the full gustar: A María le gusta el helado. The full gustar equation: A + (pronoun/name/noun) + (no) simple gustar A ella le gustan los carros (She likes cars.) A Maria le gustan los carros. (Maria likes cars.) A la muchacha le gustan los carros. (The girl likes cars.)
