The verb ¨gustar¨ can be used almost always in two forms. SINGULAR gusta y PLURAL gustan It will depend on what is likeable to the subject ejemplo: Me gusta el fútbol. (it agrees with the subject of the sentence) (me) to me; indirect object What is likeable to me? Fútbol, the subject Me gusta el fútbol.

Nos gusta viajar. If the verb “gustar” is follow by an infinitive, the verb “gustar” will be used in the singular form “gusta” Nos gusta viajar. What is the subject? Viajar = to travel. To travel is likeable to whom? To us (nos)

Me gusta cocinar comida china. Cocinar = to cook What is the subject? Cocinar (to cook) is likeable to whom? To me (me)

Nos gusta jugar deportes. Jugar (to play) What is the subject? Jugar (to play) is likeable to whom? To us (nos)

Reglas del verbo GUSTAR gusta + singular noun (what is likeable is singular) gustan + plural noun (what is likeable is plural gusta + infinitive. Remember, the verb “gustar” must be preceded by an indirect object pronoun that shows to whom the subject is likeable. The verb “gustar” must agree in number, with what is likeable (the subject).

To emphasize or contrast the indirect object pronoun, a phrase consisting of a+ the corresponding stresses pronoun is added to the sentence. This prepositional phrase is also use for “short responses” ¿Cuanto dinero nos queda? How much money do we have left? A mi me quedan doscientos pesos. I have two hundred pesos left. ¿Y a ti? How about you? Chicos, ¿a quién le gusta el pastel? Kids, who likes cake? ¡A mí! ¡A mí! ¡A mí! I do! I do! I do!
