The type of power a sensor requires and the signal it generates are major parts of applying sensors. Key Point: The electrical side of the sensor interfaces with part of the automation control system. This could be as simple as an indicator light or as involved as a programmable logic controller’s input.

Technology: Laser El concepto Laser Technology Alta exactitud en distancias largas - Detección de objetos pequeños Span long distances with a small visible light beam. Laser capable of detecting small height variations or sort product according size. Small objects are detected by the concentrated laser light. Beam diameters as small as 0.03mm can reliably detect the smallest targets. Applications include: Drill bit detection Part gauging Part profiling Metal forming Wire and cable detection Semiconductor applications

La lus láser produce rayos de luz coherentes Technology: Laser Como trabaja La lus láser produce rayos de luz coherentes Luz blanca normal Ondas de luz al azar Laser, acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Lasers are devices that amplify light and produce coherent light beams, ranging from infrared to ultraviolet. A light beam is coherent when its waves, or photons, propagate in step with one another. Laser light, therefore, can be made extremely intense, highly directional, and very pure in color (frequency). Visible red (660nm) is most commonly used for sensing applications. Lasers used in Balluff sensors are semiconductor lasers. Gallium arsenide is the most common semiconductor used. Semiconductor lasers are pumped by the direct application of electrical current across the junction. Animation Operation: Click 1: Image appears of the random light waves found in normal light. Luminescence Detection Start of the Luminescence Technology section. Sensing the Invisible

Concept Targeting invisible marks Marks can be used for: Technology: Luminescence Concept Targeting invisible marks Marks can be used for: Sorting/classifying Orientation/verification Lot control Two basic concepts 1) Targeting UV marks on products 2) Targeting UV products This slide shows the concept of targeting UV marks on products. Any product can be marked with invisible UV identification. This is done to allow sorting, classifying, orientation, etc. while the product shows no signs of markings. Example: Your credit card is filled with UV marks to ensure certain operations were completed. This slide shows a credit card application. As the invisible UV light strikes the card, the UV mark glows blue.

Concept Sensing difficult objects Objects with UV pre-applied Technology: Luminescence Concept Sensing difficult objects Objects with UV pre-applied Safety seals Glue Any object with UV inks or dyes applied This slide shows the concept of targeting products with UV. If a sensing application is too difficult for a standard sensor and a vision system is costly and complex, Luminescence is the answer. This is a very dependable method for targeting a tricky part. Also, sensing position is not as critical as with other solutions, such as background suppression. Any product can have UV applied. UV comes in many forms: Water soluble dyes Solvent soluble dyes Paint Ink Crayons Chalk Pens Pigments This Application: Small widget is inserted into larger widget. Must be able to detect the presents of the small widget on the wobbling conveyer. Solution: Apply UV to the part before installation. 100% detection guaranteed despite the wobbling conveyer.

Technology: Luminescence How it works Invisible Ultra Violet light strikes a Luminescence target Luminescence target converts UV light into reflected visible light Sensor’s optical receiver detects the visible light. Emitter Luminescent Object Slide shows the operation of a Luminescence Sensor. Animation Operation: Click 1: Emitter sends out invisible Ultra Violet (UV) beam. Click 2: UV beam strikes luminescence target making it glow blue. Click 3: Targets blue glow is seen by the receiver. Output LED lights up. A refracting mirror is used to allow one lens for both emitter and receiver. Receiver

Technology: Luminescence Benefits Detects marks on products without consumer’s knowledge Detects targets otherwise impossible for typical sensors Can detect products and marks regardless of color Very dependable sensing method; ideal for critical applications.
