The Verb SER
SER The verb SER means “to be” In Spanish, a verb has different forms to tell you who the subject is. Changing a verb form so that it matches its subject is called CONJUGATING.
SER SER is an irregular verb, so you must memorize all its forms.
SER Yosoy Túeres Usted Éles Ella Nosotros somos Vosotros sois Ustedes. Ellos son Ellas _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
SER Used to tell TIME and DATE. Son las dos y media. It is two thirty. Es el veinte de noviembre. It is the twentieth of November.
SER Used to tell NATIONALITY. For example: Yo soy americana. Él es puertorriqueño.
SER Used to tell WHERE SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS FROM. Tú eres de Nicaragua. Ellas son de Costa Rica.
SER Used to connect a noun or pronoun to another noun or pronoun. (identification) Eduardo es un hombre. Coquí y Sultán son gatos.
SER Used to describe CHARACTERISTICS. (permanent characteristics) Rebeca es alta. Enrique y yo somos guapos.

With nouns and names of people, use the same form of the verb as for él/ella or ellos/ellas. Mi profesora es de Cuba. Juan y Carlos son de España.
To make a sentence NEGATIVE, place the word NO directly in front of the verb. Mi profesora no es de Cuba. No es de España.
