What is the Spanish language? Approximately 406 million people speak Spanish as a native language, making it the second-most- spoken language by number of native speakers after Mandarin. Mexico, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, United States, Peru, Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Cuba, Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Uruguay, Equatorial Guinea, Philippines and Western Sahara.

Countries where Spanish has official status. Countries and U.S. states where Spanish has no official status but is spoken by 25% or more of the population.
