Foundation Writing Question 2 Guide

Write something for each bullet point! Aim for 10 words for each bullet. Make it easy for the examiner. The bullet points are a guide. Do NOT try to say things you don’t know. There is plenty of scope for a variety of vocabulary and structures. They don’t particularly want to read “aburrido/interesante.”

Know what they are looking for! Content 10 marks 9-10 A full coverage of the required information. Communication is clear. 7-8 A good coverage of the required information. Communication is mostly clear but perhaps with occasional lapses. 5-6 A reasonable coverage of the required information. Communication is generally clear but there are likely to be lapses. 3-4 A partial coverage of the required information. Communication is sometimes clear but there are instances where messages are not conveyed. 1-2 A minimal coverage of the required information. Communication is often not clear and there may be frequent instances where messages are not conveyed. The content does not meet the standard required for Level 1 at this tier

Know what they are looking for! Quality of language: 6 marks 5-6 Uses a variety of appropriate vocabulary and grammatical structures. Generally accurate. 3-4 Vocabulary and grammatical structures generally appropriate to the task, with some attempt at variety. More accurate than inaccurate. 1-2 Vocabulary and structures used may be limited, repetitive or inappropriate. There may be frequent errors. The language produced does not meet the standard required for Level 1 at this tier.

A useful strategy for writing 40 words? 1 sentence: A positive opinion and justification. 1 sentence: A negative opinion and justification. 1 sentence: What there is (or isn’t)/you have/someone has. 1 sentence: This will depend on what you are asked-if it’s something specific, deal with that, otherwise try another opinion, saying what there isn’t, what you’re going to do, where you are etc. Make sure to use different vocabulary and structures across the 4 sentences! It doesn’t have to be in this order. Make sure you know what they are looking for (i.e.-know the mark scheme requirements.)

What did this score?-check against the mark scheme. Tu amigo español te ha preguntado sobre tu tiempo libre. Escríbele sobre tus intereses y actividades. Menciona: • música • deporte • cine • restaurantes. Escribe aproximadamente 40 palabras en español Version 1. Me gustaria pizza porque es deliciosa. Ademas los restaurantes de pizza son demasiado. Me gusta el deport. Mi favorita es fútbol porque es fantastic. El fin de semana pasado fui el festival de musical con mis amigos y vimos muchas bands. Includas McFly. (43 words)

To be considered when marking: Did they write around 40 words? Have all 4 bullet points been covered? Is there a message clearly communicated about each bullet point? Is there a variety of structure? If so, which examples of language are there? Hint- another person of the verb?/ a tense?/ a different way to express an opinion?/ a sub clause? Is there a variety of vocabulary? Hint-more interesting adjectives.
