Why Parties need to update their NDCs by 2020? The Political and environmental context has changed from the submission of the INDC before COP21 and the Paris Agreement Current NDCs are not enough to comply with the comitments of the Paris Agreement It is necesary to align NDCs with the long term goals of the countries Transparency is key for an ambitious NDC

Domestic reasons to update our NDC It is important to take into account the advances in innovation and the reduction of the costs of emission mitigation technologies that have occurred since the NDCs were developed Reflect recent changes in the real economy and send precise signals to the private sector to inform investment decisions. Align the NDC with long-term national objectives and strategies related to climate, development and economic objectives. Chile’s NDC: Internacional Assesment

Some though about ambition in news NDCs Consider the NDCs as intermediate goals between now and the national long term goal It is imperative to consider scientific evidence to set new goals (net carbon neutrality need to be reach by 2050) Update information according to Katowice outcomes ( a more transparent NDC is more ambitious)

Conclusion The rulebook present new challenges for sure, but it is a great opportunity to define targets based on reliable and quantifiable information New challenges in reporting will also allow better quality in assessment of international commitments and public policies
