Review 1. Infinitives are the “to” form of the verb 2. Infinitives end in: -ar, -er, -ir 3. Pronouns Yo (I) -nosotros (we) Tú (you) - vosotros (y’all) Él (he) - ellos (they) Ella (she) - ellas (they) Ud (you) - uds (y’all)

Conjugating…What is it? When we speak, we usually do not use infinitives… We don’t say “I to run a lot” We have to change the “to” part to reflect WHO is doing the action We say “I run a lot” When we change the verb, we say we CONJUGATE it

How to conjugate Spanish verbs… We’ll only focus on –ar verbs right now, so to conjugate –ar verbs, you… Step 1  take off the –ar ending (you are left with the stem of the word) Ex – hablar  habl Step 2  add the correct ending back (to reflect who is doing the action)

Here are the endings… Yo -o Nosotros -amos Tú -as Vosotros -áis Él Ellos Ella -a Ellas -an Ud. Uds.

Here is a complete VERB CHART Hablar – to talk Yo hablo Nosotros hablamos Tú hablas Vosotros habláis Él Ellos Ella habla Ellas hablan Ud. Uds.

Omitting pronouns There are certain pronouns that can be left out of the sentences They are: Yo, tú, nosotros, vosotros Why do you think this is?

Examples We talk on the phone Sara plays the guitar Juan and Pablo ski (Nosotros) hablamos por teléfono Sara plays the guitar Sara toca la guitarra Juan and Pablo ski Juan y Pablo esquian You skateboard Tú montas en monopatín Ud. monta en monopatín
