La comida de Noche Vieja es muy importante para las familias españolas. Como entrantes hay marisco y embutido. Seguimos con sopa, besugo con patatas, cordero asado o cochinillo. El pavo empieza a ser habitual. Se completa con cava, un vino excelente. Se preparan bandejas con pasteles y dulces navideños. El turrón y el mazapán es uno de los dulces más importantes. El turrón está hecho con almendras. Se ha fabricado en España durante cinco siglos. The family Christmas Eve meal is one of the most important meals of the year for a Spanish family. First on the menu is likely to be plates of cold shellfish, sea food and cold meat. This may be followed by soup then baked besugo (Bream) with potatoes followed by roast lamb or suckling pig. Turkey is becoming popular. The meal will be complemented with Cava, Spain's excellent sparkling wine. Trays of Christmas cakes and sweets will be served. The important sweets are turrón and marzipan. Turrón is a nougat made of toasted sweet almonds and has been made in Spain for over five centuries.

The 6th January or Three Kings Day (Los Reyes). This is the day that the Three Kings arrived in Bethlehem, it is also the most important day for the children as the Three Kings in effect replace Father Christmas for Spanish children (although Santa is becoming popular). They arrive overnight on the 5th January, riding camels and leave presents for the children. Parents encourage children to write to the Three Kings with their gift requests. Every town and city in Spain will have a parade on the night of 5th January.This day (Los Reyes Day), a special cake is made and sold all over Spain. Roscón de Reyes is a ring- shaped pastry (tasting similar to hot-cross-bun mixture), covered in sugar and fruit flavoured jellies. On biting, beware; the cake will contain small toys, a coin… as presents. Anyone lucky enough to find one of the hidden charms will be blessed with good luck for the New Year. El 6 de Enero es el día de los Reyes Magos. Es cuando los tres reyes llegaron a Belén, es el día más importante para los más pequeños, aunque Santa Claus está siendo muy popular. Llegan el 5 de enero por la noche, montando en camellos y dejando regalos a los niños. Se les anima a escribir cartas para pedir sus regalos. En todas partes hay una cabalgata el 5 de enero. Este día se hace el roscón, un pastel especial. Tiene una forma de anillo, está cubierto de azúcar y de fruta escarchada. Al morderlo hay que tener cuidado, ya que contiene pequeños juguetes, una moneda… como regalos. El que la encuentre tendrá suerte para dodo el Año Nuevo.

Estas escenas ocupan plazas en las ciudades y pueblos a lo largo de todo el país, también se encuentran en las entradas de las casas y en las ventanas. Son muy elaborados. En muchos pueblos se representa un belén viviente, con actores y actrices que representan a la Virgen María, a San José, a los tres reyes magos, con animales vivos asociados al nacimiento de Jesús, como corderos, la mula y el buey…
