In English the direct object of a sentence is the person or thing the action is being done to. Ejemplo: I returned the book In this sentence “book” is the direct object. You could easily replace book with the word “it” and it would still make sense. A good hint for finding the D.O. is that it is usually right after the verb. In Spanish you have direct object pronouns as well. Instead of him, her, and it, you have “lo”, “la”, “los”, and “las”. Just like everything else in Spanish the direct object pronouns must agree in NUMBER and in GENDER with the noun they are replacing. Ejemplo: ¿Devolviste los libros a la biblioteca?
