There are nine planets in our solar system. The nine planets are around the sun, and they travel in orbits. Tenemos nueve planetas en nuestro sistema solar. Los nueve planetas estan alrededor del sol, y viajan en orbitas.

The Universe/ El Universo Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. Since it is so close to the sun, its atmosphere is extremely hot. It also looks a lot like our moon, yet it does not have any moons itself. Mercurio es el planeta mas cerquita del sol. Como esta tan cerquita del sol, su temperatura es demasiada caliente. Aunque desde lejos se parece mucho a nuestra luna, mercurio no tiene luna propia. Mercury: Planet 1 Mercurio: Planeta 1

The Universe/ El Universo The next planet closest to the sun is Venus. Venus is often referred as Earths sister planet because they seem so similar. However, it is actually the hottest planet of all. Venus does not have any moons. El siguiente planeta mas cercano del sol es Venus. Venus se dice que podria ser el planeta hermano de la Tierra porque parecen muy similares. Pero Venus es realmente el planeta mas caliente de todos. Venus tampoco tiene ninguna luna. Venus: Planet 2 Venus: Planeta 2

The Universe/ El Universo Planet Earth, where we live, is perfect for life because it has the right weather, the right temperature, and the right atmosphere, so human life can survive as we know it. Since no human being has been on another planet, we base Earth to study and compare the rest of the planets. El planeta tierra, donde nosotros vivimos, es perfecto para vivir porque tiene el clima perfecto, la temperatura perfecta y la atmosfera perfecta para poder vivir. Como ninguna persona a visitado algun otro planeta, los cientificos se basan en el planeta tierra para comparar y estudiar los otros planetas. Earth: Planet 3 Tierra: Planeta 3

The Universe/ El Universo Mars is the next planet. Mars is actually the most similar to Earth. This fact excites scientists because it suggests that life as we know it had existed here. Also, studies suggest that Mars once had rivers, streams, and even oceans. However, now all of the water in this planet has slowly evaporated. Mars has two moons. Marte es el siguiente planeta. Marte es el planeta mas similar a la Tierra. Esto intriga a los cientificos porque sugiere que lo que nosotros conocemos como vida, pudo haber existido ahi tambien. Tambien, estudios sugieren que hace mucho tiempo Marte tenia lagos, rios y hasta un oceano. Pero ahora toda esa agua se ha evaporado lentamente. Marte tiene dos lunas. The Universe/ El Universo Jupiter is the next planet in our solar system. Jupiter is actually the largest planet. The red spot in the picture is actually a large storm that has been on this planet for 300 years. Jupiter is actually just a large ocean, it does not have a surface where you can stand. Jupiter has 28 moons. Jupiter es el siguiente planeta en nuestro sistema solar. Jupiter es el planeta mas grande. La mancha roja que se ve en la foto es una tormenta que ha estado ocurriendo en Jupiter por 300 años. Todo el planeta de Jupiter es un oceano enorme, no tiene una superficie donde nos podriamos parar. Jupiter tiene 28 lunas. Jupiter: Planet 5 Jupiter: Planeta 5

The Universe/ El Universo Saturn is the next planet. It is probably the most beautiful planet to look at because of its beautiful rings around it. It is very similar to Jupiter because it is considered to be a large ocean also, yet it is a lot smaller than Jupiter. Saturn has 30 moons. Saturno es el siguiente planeta. Este es probablemente el planeta mas bonito por sus anillos alrededor. Se parece mucho a Jupiter porque tambien al parecer es un gran oceano, pero Saturno es mucho mas chico que Jupiter. Saturno tiene 30 lunas. Saturn: Planet 6 Saturno: Planeta 6

The Universe/ El Universo Uranus is the next planet in our solar system. Uranus has very heavy clouds, and beneath them appears to be a large ocean, and a very rocky surface. Because of the climate, it is believed that Uranus is full of diamonds underneath its rocky surface. Uranus has 21 moons. Urano es el siguiente planeta en nuestro sistema solar. Urano tiene nubes muy gruesas, y al parecer tiene un oceano abajo de las nubes, y tambien tiene una superficie bastante rocosa. Por su clima tan diferente, se cree que debajo de la superficie rocosa, Urano esta lleno de diamantes. Urano tiene 21 lunas. Uranus: Planet 7 Urano: Planeta 7

The Universe/ El Universo Neptune is one of the last planets in our solar system. Neptune, like Jupiter has a large blue spot in the picture which indicates a storm that has been active since a long time ago. Neptune has 8 moons that we know of. Neptuno es uno de los ultimos planetas en nuestro sistema solar. Como Jupiter, Neptuno tiene una mancha azul en la foto, cual indica que ha habido una tormenta por un largo tiempo en este planeta. Neptuno tiene 8 lunas que podemos distinguir. Neptune: Planet 8 Neptuno: Planeta 8

The Universe/ El Universo Pluto is the last planet in our solar system. However, we know very little about Pluto because it is so far away, and so hard to study. Pluto is a very small planet. Many scientists do not consider it a planet at all because of its size, and it is considered just another comet. Pluto has 1 moon. Pluton es el ultimo planeta en nuestro sistema solar. Pero no tenemos mucha informacion sobre Pluton porque se encuentra tan lejos de nosotros, y lo hace muy dificil para estudiarlo. Pluton es un planeta muy chico y muchos cientificos no lo consideran un planeta si no solamente otro cometa. Pluton tiene 1 luna. Pluto: Planet 9 Pluton: Planeta 9

The Universe/ El Universo What else do we have in the universe besides planets? ¿ Que otras cosas ahi en el universo aparte de los planetas? Asteroids/ Asteroides Asteroids are large rocks found in space. Asteroids can be very large or very small like a grain of sand. There are 26 very large asteroids that have been discovered, yet because there are many small ones, there are still millions of asteroids to be discovered. Asteroides son piedras que se encuentran en el espacio. Los asteroides pueden ser muy grandes o tan chicos como un grano de arena. Hasta ahorita, 26 asteroides grandes han sido descubiertos, pero como ahi muchos chiquitos faltan millones por descubrir.

The Universe/ El Universo Comets are also found in space like asteroids. Comets are considered to be small worlds, which are made up of dust and ice. Kind of like a dirty snow ball. Los cometas tambien se encuentran en el espacio como los asteroides. Los cometas son considerados como mundos pequeños, hechos de tierra y hielo. Se podria comparar a una bola de nieve tierrosa.

The Universe/ El Universo There are also billions of stars in our galaxy. A star is basically a large glowing ball of gas. The sun is the closest star to our planet. Stars can live for billions of years. Tambien ahi billones de estrellas en nuestra galaxia. Una estrella es simplemente una bola enorme de gas. La estrella mas cerquita a nuestro planeta es el sol. Las estrellas pueden vivir por billones de años.
