“-go” verbs “-go” verbs are important with subjunctive formation. Remember that we are starting with the present indicative formation of the yo form when conjugating in the subjunctive. Examples: What are the present indicative yo forms of these verbs?

HACER - hago TRAER - traigo PONER – pongo TENER - tengo SALIR - salgo To form the subjunctive, we must start with these present indicative yo forms: HACER - hago TRAER - traigo PONER – pongo TENER - tengo SALIR - salgo VENIR - vengo

Ejemplos: Espero que tengas una semana buena. I hope that you have a good week. Luis nos recomienda que hagamos la tarea. Luis recommends that we do the homework.

Stem - changers ¡Ojo! If a verb has a stem change in the present indicative, it will keep that stem change in the present subjunctive!! We will conjugate the verb with the stem change, and apply subjunctive endings.

Common stem-changers: Jugar – uue Dormir – oue Querer – eie Pensar – eie Preferir – eie ** See pg. R39 in your text for a list! ** Remember stem-changers don’t change in the nosotros form!

Ejemplos: Espero que duerma bien esta noche I hope that she sleeps well tonight. Te recomiendo que juegues deportes. I recommend that you play sports.

-car, - gar, -zar Verbs ending in car, gar, and zar will have spelling changes in the subjunctive. They will still have the regular subjunctive endings. CAR  c changes to qu GAR  g changes to gu ZAR  z changes to c

buscar  busque, busques, etc… llegar  llegue, llegues, etc… Double offenders!! jugar  juegue, juegues, juegue, juguemos, jueguen empezar empiece, empieces, empiece, empecemos, empiecen
