2 Verbs have tense (present, past, future) and mood (the speaker’s attitude toward the action).
Present, preterite and imperfect are all tenses in the indicative mood, which is used to report facts and things that the speaker considers certain.

3 The subjunctive mood is used after verbs that make a request and after expressions that make suggestions like: El policía manda que…+ verb in subjunctive Es necesario que…+ verb in subjunctive Quiere que... + verb in subjunctive

4 When a sentence starts with one of these phrases and the subject of the sentence changes after que, the verb that follows que is in the subjunctive mood. Es importante que respetes las normas de tránsito. No quiero que la policía me dé una multa.

To conjugate a regular verb in the subjunctive, start with the yo form of the verb in the present tense, take off the -o, and add the “opposite” endings just like you did for formal commands! Stem-changing -ar and -er verbs do not have the stem change in the nosotros and vosotros forms.
