¡Sí, se puede! I am eternally grateful to the women before me who have fought for my rights. Estoy eternamente agradecida a las mujeres que vinieron antes de mí y que han luchado por mis derechos.

Parents filling out reimbursement forms and evaluation forms with teacher Rachel. Saturday, March 31st at 8:00 A.M. in the lobby. Elodia Ortega-Lampkin, CABE President, thanked the SUHSD parents for their participation. Edgar Lampkin, CABE Presenter - Williams USD, also thanked the parents.

What our parents had to say… The CABE conference is a wonderful resource for parents to learn… Strategies to change their child’s approach to learning. Strategies for parents to better communicate with the schools. Strategies to bring new ideas to implement in the schools and share with other parents. Understanding that testing is essential to determine the funding of our children’s educational future. And how important it is to allocate more money into education and not prisons. We learned that having a “Parent Academy” at our schools would encourage parent involvement. We hope that this conference will continue to be offered every year to SUHSD parents.

Lo que nuestros padres expresaron… La conferencia CABE es un recurso maravilloso para los padres para aprender…. Estrategias de cambiar el acercamiento al aprendizaje de su hijo/hija. Estrategias para los padres para comunicarse mejor con las escuelas. Estrategias de traer nuevas ideas de poner en práctica o implementar en las escuelas y compartir con los demás padres. Entender que las pruebas son esenciales para determinar los fondos del futuro educativo de nuestros hijos. Y que tan importante es asignar más dinero en la educación y no en las prisiones. Aprendimos que formar una “Academia de Padres” en nuestras escuelas animaría la participación de más padres. Tenemos la esperanza que esta conferencia siga siendo ofrecida cada año a los padres del SUHSD.

QUESTIONS FOR PARENTS . . . Q1.   What strategy (1-2) did you or the other parents learn that you can apply now?  We learned that when speaking with our children to use positive affirmations so they can feel comfortable and encouraged to speak with their parents, school staff, and/or administrators when obstacles arise. The affirmations should be reciprocated. Q2. What was the most memorable experience for you and your team? The knowledge that every student learns differently and that you can become anything you want. The important part is the training, resources, and the options available to them. Q3.  Based on what you learned, what recommendations  do you have for the school and/or district regarding our services to English Learners?  The recommendation would be to look into getting “Parent Academies” placed in each school which will inspire parents to get involved in the schools.

PREGUNTAS PARA NUESTROS PADRES. . . P1. ¿Cuál estrategia (1-2 estrategias) aprendió Ud. o los otros padres aprendieron que Ud. puede aplicar o implementar ahora? Aprendimos que cuando hablamos con nuestros hijos de usar afirmaciones positivas para que ellos puedan sentirse cómodos, tranquilos y animados a hablar con sus padres, personal escolar, y/o administradores cuando se presenten obstáculos. Las afirmaciones deberían ser intercambiadas.   P2. ¿Cuál fue la experiencia más memorable para Ud. y su grupo? Entender que cada estudiante aprende de forma diferente y que uno puede llegar a ser lo que uno desea ser. La parte importante es la formación, los recursos, y las opciones disponibles a ellos. P3. De acuerdo con lo que Ud. aprendió, ¿cuáles recomendaciones tendría Ud. para la escuela y/o para el distrito tocante a nuestros servicios para sus hijos que están aprendiendo inglés? La recomendación sería averiguar si podemos formar “Academias de Padres” en cada escuela lo cual inspirará a los padres a involucrarse en las escuelas.
