Basic sentence structure in Spanish Subject + Verb + rest of sentence Rosa es alta. Paco y yo somos amigos. Los perros son grandes.

How do adjectives agree in Spanish? Adjectives must agree in number & gender with the noun they describe. Los libros son __________. (viejo, vieja, viejos, viejas) viejos Mi madre es ___________. (alto, alta, altos, altas) alta

¡Vamos a Practicar! -Make the adjective DELGADO (skinny) match each noun in GENDER & NUMBER 1. chico 2. chica 3. amigas 4. amigos delgado delgada delgadas delgados -Make the adjective INTELIGENTE (intelligent) match each noun in GENDER & NUMBER: 1. amiga 2. amigo 3. chicos 4. chicas inteligente inteligente inteligentes inteligentes

What is an Adjective? An adjective is the part of sentence that describes a noun (person, place, thing). For example: Paco is tall. (the adjective in this sentence is tall, because it describes Paco, a noun).

Adjectives In Spanish, adjectives MUST match the noun that it describes in both GENDER and in NUMBER. For example: La chica alta = The tall girl Las chicas altas = The tall girls

Gender Agreement Masculine (male) adjectives describe masculine nouns. For example: Paco es alto y guapo. Feminine (female) adjectives describe feminine nouns. For example Juanita es baja y rubia.

What if there is a mixed group? If there is a mixed group (males and females), we always use the male form of the adjective (Sorry ladies ). For example: Paco y Juanita son amigos buenos. *Even if there are 100,000,000 women and only 1 male, we use the male adjective.*
