The verb “Ser” Before we get started. Some definitions: Conjugate: to change the verb from the infinitive to a form that matches the subject. Conjugations: The forms of the verb after you conjugate it. Infinitive: means and unchanged (or unconjugated) verb. For example: “Ser” to be, “comer” to eat Verb: The action being done. (end in –ar –er or –ir) Subject: The person doing the action.

The Verb “SER” means to be In English the verb to be is irregular. In Spanish is also irregular. You have to memorize the forms and their meanings. Pronombres Ser I am yo soy We are nosotros/as somos You are tú eres You all are (Spain) vosotros/as sois He is él es They are (m) ellos son She is ella They are (f) ellas usted You all are ustedes

For example, “es de Chicago” could mean “He is from Chicago,” “She is from Chicago,” or “You (formal) are from Chicago.” A pronoun can help clear the confusion:  Ella es de Chicago. (She is from Chicago) But if you already knew you were talking about “her” or “she,” then “Es de Chicago” can mean “She is from Chicago.”
