First, let’s review regular preterite endings For regular –AR verbs: -É -AMOS -ASTE -ASTEIS -Ó -ARON

In the examples we just discussed, the stem of the conjugated verbs as the stem from the infinitive. IS THE SAME In the examples we are about to discuss, the stem of the conjugated verbs than the stem from the infinitive. IS DIFFERENT

These verbs ARE NOT STEM-CHANGING VERBS These verbs ARE NOT STEM-CHANGING VERBS! The change takes place in ALL FORMS, which is different than a stem-changer.

The stems we will use to conjugate the verb will change from present to preterite. Therefore, these verbs are called “irregular stem verbs”. All verbs that fall into this category follow the SAME SET OF ENDINGS, no matter what type of infinitive it is.

For regular irregular stem verbs: ALL -E -IMOS -ISTE -ISTEIS -O -IERON * - ERON Note the missing accents. * Verbs whose stem ends in a “J” drop the “I” from –IERON and just use –ERON.

In your notes, you have a list of 10 irregular stem verbs, some bolded and others not. The BOLDED verbs are in your textbook. The other three are helpful verbs for your final exam.

HACER is considered an irregular stem. (But I don’t. I consider it an irregular verb, along with VER and DAR.)
