2 Los irregulares A verb that does not follow the normal pattern of conjugations is called an irregular verb. Some very common irregular preterite verbs in Spanish are IR, SER, VER and DAR.

3 Las formas de IR fui fuiste fue fuimos fuisteis fueron

4 Ejemplo fuimos Nosotros ________ a Brasil el verano pasado.
We went to Brazil last summer.

5 Las formas de SER fui fuiste fue fuimos fuisteis fueron
In the preterit, IR and SER have the same conjugations. Context clues will clarify the correct meaning.

6 Ejemplo fue El viaje ______ fantástico. The trip was fantastic.

17 These endings are only used for the verbs with irregular preterite stems.
In the preterite, saber means to find out, no querer means to refuse and poder means to try. Verbs whose stem ends in j drop the i and add –eron to the to ellos/ellas/Uds. ending.

22 He refused to do the homework.
Él no quiso hacer la tarea.

23 They brought pizza to the party.
Trajeron pizza a la fiesta.

24 Práctica I found out all of the answers. We put the dog in the car.
Paco and Juan refused to eat. You had a delicious dinner. The boys told the truth. (la verdad) Marta walked through the park.
