The Preterite tense The Preterite tense is used to describe an action that took place at a specific time in the past. To conjugate regular verbs that end in –ar in the Preterite, drop the infinitive ending [-ar] and add these endings: yo -é nosotros -amos tú -aste vosotros -asteis él / ella / Ud -ó ellos / Uds -aron

HABLAR – to speak / to talk yo hablé nosotros hablamos tú hablaste vosotros hablasteis él / ella / Ud habló ellos / Uds hablaron ***Notice the accents in the YO form and the he/she/it/Ud form!

I watched (mirar) the movie last night. Yo miré la película anoche. Luisa called me yesterday. Luisa me llamó ayer. Did you study for the exam? ¿Estudiaste para el exámen? My parents bought a new car. Mis padres compraron un coche nuevo.
