TENER means TO HAVE Tengo un libro. Tienes una clase. Tenemos mucha tarea. Tienen cuatro cuadernos. Tiene el pelo largo. ALL THESE ARE EXMPLES OF TENER WHEN USED TO MEAN TO HAVE.

We have already learned that Tener means to have. However when combined with certain words the meaning changes. Then the verb Tener is combined with these words the meaning changes to TO BE. Do not confuse it with SER or ESTAR. Following are some examples.
