Apuntes el 6 de febrero El presente progresivo The Present Progressive The present progressive describes actions that are in progress. ¿Qué estás haciendo? -Estoy escuchando música. What are you doing? - I’m listening to music.

The present progressive is formed by using the present tense of the verb estar and a present participle (participio presente). Miguel está sacando fotos. Estamos comiendo una pizza. Miguel is taking pictures. We’re eating a pizza.

The present participle for most verbs is formed as follows:

When the stem of an –er or –ir verb ends in a vowel, the present participle ends in –yendo.

Stem-changing verbs that end in –ir have a stem change in the present participle:

Keep in mind that the present participle ending (-ando, -iendo) corresponds to the –ing ending on English verbs. Tú estás estudiando. Miguel está corriendo. You are studying. Miguel is running.
