Regular Present Tense Verbs Conjugations

What is an ‘infinitive’? The infinitive form of a verb is the verb in its purest form (without being conjugated or altered in any way). In English, verbs that have the word “to” in front of them are in their infinitive form. Examples: “to run”, “to jump”, “to eat”. In Spanish, verbs that are in their infinitive form end in either –ar, –er or –ir. The endings –ar, –er or –ir are the equivalent to the English word “to” in front of the verbs.

Regular –ar verbs –ar verbs are simply verbs that end in –ar Examples: abrazar, besar, comprar, arreglar To conjugate these verbs, remove the –ar and add the appropriate ending. The ending has to match the person that is being discussed (1st person, 2nd person, etc)

Regular –ar verb endings (present tense) YO - o NOSOTROS - amos TÚ - as Vosotros - áis ÉL ELLA - a UD. ELLOS ELLAS - an UDS.

Regular –er verbs –er verbs are simply verbs that end in –er Examples: comer, correr, beber. To conjugate these verbs, remove the –er and add the appropriate ending. The ending has to match the person that is being discussed (1st person, 2nd person, etc)

Regular –Er verb endings (present tense) YO - o NOSOTROS - emos TÚ - es Vosotros - éis ÉL ELLA - e UD. ELLOS ELLAS - en UDS.

Regular –ir verbs –ir verbs are simply verbs that end in –ir Examples: salir, vivir, servir. To conjugate these verbs, remove the –ir and add the appropriate ending. The ending has to match the person that is being discussed (1st person, 2nd person, etc)

Regular –Ir verb endings (present tense) YO - o NOSOTROS - imos TÚ - es Vosotros - ís ÉL ELLA - e UD. ELLOS ELLAS - en UDS.

Gustar & Querer Any verb after the verbs GUSTAR or QUERER are left in the infinitive form. Examples: Me gusta jugar. Ellos quieren comer.
