The Preterite Tense of Regular Verbs -er and –ir endings are the same. 1st and 3rd person singular take accents. Nosotros forms of –ar and –ir are the same as present tense. -ar and –er verbs that have stem changes in the present DO NOT have stem changes in the preterite. Preterite –ar verb endings -é -amos -aste -ó -aron Hablé con mi padre ayer. Preterite –er -ir verb endings -í -imos -iste -ío -ieron Ella escribío la carta ya.
Verbs with spelling changes Creer (to believe), leer, and oír (to hear) have spelling changes.
