Chile - GEO Actividades de difusión y talleres: Oct. 2013, Santiago - sesión especial sobre GEO/GEOSS en la Semana Latinoamericana de Percepción Remota (LARS 2013) Septiembre 2015, Santiago - sesión sobre GEO/GEOSS en el Seminario Internacional “Información Territorial para la Gestión Pública y el Acceso Ciudadano” de SNIT-IDE Chile. Sesión Plenaria y taller sobre GEO/GEOSS en LARS 2016 (FIDAE) 24 octubre 2013, se realizó en Santiago de Chile una sesión especial sobre Sistema Global de Sistemas de Observación de la Tierra (GEOSS).  Esta sesión fue auspiciada y organizada por el Grupo sobre Observación de la Tierra (GEO) y el respectivo grupo chileno GEO CHILE, en conjunto  con la Semana Latinoamericana de Percepción Remota (LARS 2013)   Asimismo, científicos de la Universidad de Magallanes e INACH contribuyen a la iniciativa de GEO sobre ecosistemas de montaña (GEO-GNOME), en lo que respecta a zona de glaciares y región subantártica. Esta iniciativa se incorporará en el nuevo programa de trabajo para el año 2016, en una actividad más amplia sobre ecosistemas. También nuestro país ha estado presente en webinars en las Américas de la Comunidad para la Información Espacial e Hidrográfica en Latinoamérica y el Caribe. CIEHLYC es un grupo de trabajo de GEOSS en las Américas que reúne a expertos del agua y sensores remotos, de organizaciones gubernamentales y academia en las Américas y el Caribe. Fue formado en el año 2009 para promover y asistir con las actividades de implementación de GEOSS en el área de beneficio social del Agua (incluyendo Océanos) a través de colaboraciones entre sus miembros y mediante actividades de formación de capacidades en el uso de observaciones de la Tierra para América Latina y el Caribe. CIEHLYC es coordinado principalmente por Canadá, EEUU, Colombia, y Chile. Ha estado presente en la actividad NASA-Develop – modelo predictivo de nieve en la alta montaña. La Universidad de la Serena -sistema GEONETCAST.

Chile – GEO Grupo de Trabajo GEO Chile sobre formación de capacidades en el área de desastres (grupo abierto público-privado) Participan: MINREL, SNIT-IDE, SAF, METEO CHILE, SHOA, ONEMI, SERNAGEOMIN, SUBTEL, CENTRO SISMOLOGICO NACIONAL, CIREN, UNIV. FSM., entre otros Entidades internacionales que colaboran: Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), NASA, Centro Nacional de Investigaciones (CNR) de Italia, GSNL, Secretaría de GEO, entre otros. Colaboración especial de la Dra. Lucia Lovison (OGC, Afriterra, Sat-Drones) Nace del proyecto piloto de implementación de la Arquitectura de GEOSS (AIP) desde hace 5 años. Ha incorporado paulatinamente varios servicios chilenos. Se ha focalizado : terremotos, tsunamis, actividades volcánicas, e incendios, en 7 áreas piloto. La conectividad de datos / metadatos, y manejo de imágenes. la incorporación del catálogo del SNIT al Geoportal de GEO. Diseño de una aplicación web para usuarios (UTFSM) Future of GEO-Chile Disaster Initiative -- The main objective of the GEOSS Chile Disaster Initiative is to develop and implement prototype services according to the GEO priorities and in particular to develop connection within and outside Chile through GEO, in order to increase resilience to disasters of the population. Within Chile and Latin America, the goal is to build capacity and strength both the commitment of the agencies involved at the present time, and to enroll other agencies that can contribute to increase resilience of Chile, and Latin America to disasters and environmental changes. Outside Chile, the goal is to link with additional contributions and activities within GEO that are going on and discussed at the present time, such as with AmeriGEOSS and other GEO initiatives, within the SENDAI Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Activities for 2016 Additional agencies, both within Chile and outside, will be asked to make available some data and metadata, so that they are accessible, searchable and discoverable when disaster strike. A service oriented architecture (SOA) of the data, collected mostly through sensors, will be applied. The SOA is at the foundation of the GEOSS Common Infrastructure (GCI) for Data Producers. Sensors, that will cover both the ground, air, space, and water, will produce big amount of data and metadata, each managed by its own agency, but interoperable to a certain level. The establishment of criteria and policies related to the data management will be applied with the goal of hazard assessment and disaster mitigation, harmonizing the excellent work carried out by the Chilean emergency agency ONEMI, and complementing it when needed. We'll focus to the disaster cycle, considering earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic activities, and floods. For 2016, the GEO Chile Capacity Building WG plans to work with satellites, such as in EO-1, and FASat Charlie or Sistema Satelital para Observación de la Tierra (SSOT) as well as drones to increase societal resilience to disasters. Assisting in submitting an application in order to have a site in Chile declared GSNL. Capacity Building: preparing documents that captures the are seven subgroups: metadata, land use modeling, GEO Chile client application, new products and services for disasters, capacity building, telecommunications, socio-economic evaluation. Outside Chile, the goal is to link with additional contributions and activities within GEO that are going on and discussed at the present time, such as with AmeriGEOSS and other GEO initiatives, within the SENDAI Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Activities for 2016 Additional agencies, both within Chile and outside, will be asked to make available some data and metadata, so that they are accessible, searchable and discoverable when disaster strike. A service oriented architecture (SOA) of the data, collected mostly through sensors, will be applied. The SOA is at the foundation of the GEOSS Common Infrastructure (GCI) for Data Producers. Sensors, that will cover both the ground, air, space, and water, will produce big amount of data and metadata, each managed by its own agency, but interoperable to a certain level. The establishment of criteria and policies related to the data management will be applied with the goal of hazard assessment and disaster mitigation, harmonizing the excellent work carried out by the Chilean emergency agency ONEMI, and complementing it when needed. We'll focus to the disaster cycle, considering earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic activities, and floods. For 2016, the GEO Chile Capacity Building WG plans to work with satellites, such as in EO-1, and FASat Charlie or Sistema Satelital para Observación de la Tierra (SSOT) as well as drones to increase societal resilience to disasters. Later on other sensors, such as webcams and cameras on mobile devices may be also considered. The modeling of the disasters, started this year within GEO Chile, will be continued and expanded to involve different data products, services, knowledge, agencies, and people. Development of applications that use the data and services made available to GEO Users will be encouraged though the adoption of interoperable geo-standards, open source software, and prototyping. GEO users will be critical in giving the needed feedback about the services provided, and will help in identifying the set of essential variables or quality assessment parameters within GCI. Regarding this area, the Community of Practice will have to discuss issues both in Spanish and in English. Link with existing initiatives will be also pursued within GEO Chile.
