Combining Direct & Indirect Object Pronouns (Using Double Object Pronouns) Yo llevé el bronceador. ¿ Me lo puedes aplicar?

Vamos a repasar… Me Nos Te X Lo / La Los / Las The DIRECT OBJECT is the thing that is “verbed” in a sentence. (Ex. loved, walked, etc.) A direct object pronoun answers the question “Who?” or “What?” We can replace the D.O. with a pronoun: It can go in 3 places: BEFORE THE CONJUGATED VERB Attached to the INFINITIVE Attached to the PROGRESSIVE (-ing) Me Nos Te X Lo / La Los / Las

Direct object pronouns (continued) Examples: ¿Escribes la carta?..... Sí, la escribo. ¿Terminaste la tarea?..... Sí, la terminé. Luis, ¿vas a cocinar bien la carne? Sí, voy a cocinarla bien.

Vamos a repasar… Me = to me/for me Nos Te X Le Les The INDIRECT OBJECT is the person who receives the direct object. Indirect objects answer the question “To whom?” or “For whom?” the action of the verb is completed. We can replace the I.D.O. with a pronoun: It can go in 3 places: BEFORE THE CONJUGATED VERB Attached to the INFINITIVE Attached to the PROGRESSIVE (-ing) Me = to me/for me Nos Te X Le Les

Ahora en español… Identifica los objetos DIRECTOS y INDIRECTOS. Nosotros servimos las arepas a los profesores. Yo doy un beso a mi mamá. Tú estás mandando una carta a mi. Rosa va a explicar la lección a tu amiga. Mariano y yo leemos un cuento a los estudiantes

Let’s talk…Double object pronouns! A double object pronoun is when you put direct & indirect object pronouns together! Remember that your object pronouns are placed BEFORE a conjugated verb (or attached to the infinitive if you have one). Indirect Object Pronouns + Direct Object Pronouns *Note: When used together…….don’t forget your I.D.! Also, you can’t “lay low”. (Le has to change to se!) Me Nos lo los la las Te Le Se Les Se

Other notes: Because “se” has multiple meanings, clarify to whom the pronoun refers by adding “a él, a ella, a Usted, a ellos, a ellas, or a Ustedes”. Double object pronouns are always placed BEFORE conjugated verbs, BUT with infinitives double object pronouns can go either before or attach to the END of the infinitive. If you have a negative sentence and double object pronouns, the word “no” goes in front of the object pronouns. NOTE: When double object pronouns attach to the end of an infinitive, an accent mark is added to maintain the original stress!

Double object pronouns Examples: El mesero me muestra el menú. changes to… El mesero me lo muestra. Pablo les sirvió los sándwiches a sus amigos. Pablo les los sirvió. Correct answer: Pablo se los sirvió. Direct object Indirect object You CAN’T “Lay low”!

Review: Can you identify the direct & indirect objects? La mesera nos trajo (a Juan y a mí) el pollo asado. Nosotros les servimos (a los padres) la cena. In the example, there are 2 objects. That is, someone is giving something to someone. The something is the direct object & the someone (the recipient) is the indirect object.

La tarea: Make vocab. flash cards for Section 6: Las bebidas on TB pg. 298. Do TB pg. 278 inténtalo section. You DO need to write the sentences! Do TB pg. 279 Activities 1 & 2. Indirect object = the person making the request (indirect object) The what = what are they requesting? (direct object) - On Activity 2, the person in parenthesis is the subject. To whom? = indirect object What? (“It”)= direct object DUE NEXT CLASS PERIOD!
